Is there not one of us who hasn't said, "I wish I grew my own vegetables?" Few of us live on farms, but most of us have access to a plot of land, and growing one's own vegetables saves money and cuts down on a meal's carbon footprint. With the help of local farmer Garen Heller, Christopher Peake put together some starter steps for your Victory Garden.

As the debate between conventional and organic milk consumers gets louder, we spoke with two local dairy farmers and gave each the same questions; here are their positions on their milk.

Allen Smith, a fifth-generation conventional dairyman, owns Great Bay Farm in Greenland. His 100-cow herd is primarily Holsteins. Organic dairyman Luke Mahoney rents Brookford Farm in Rollinsford and his herd, mostly Jersey, numbers about 25 head.

The Home Builders and Remodelers Association of New Hampshire (HBRANH) is the statewide association that provides advocacy, education and networking for its members in the home building and remodeling industry.

As such, it is one of the Granite State's largest trade associations with approximately 900 company members and those companies employ upwards of 60,000 men and women. HBRANH has 10 statewide "local" associations and is affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders. The HBRANH maintains that it is dedicated to providing quality housing opportunities for New Hampshire.

Top 10 reasons to shop at a farmer's market

It's already mid-March and that means the snows will melt and if the ground's not too saturated farmers will soon be planting seeds for the food that will feed us this year.

Since time immemorial farmer’s markets have been with us: farmers harvest, bakers bake, dairy farmers milk their cows and they all meet at a central location where there's lots of foot traffic and they sell. The common theme: the food is fresh.
